1. Information we collect

When you use NumberFlag, we may collect the following information automatically:

  • IP address — collected and hashed for rate limiting and abuse prevention. We do not store your raw IP address.
  • Phone numbers searched — we log which phone numbers are looked up to generate aggregate statistics and trending data.
  • Browser and device info — user agent string, screen resolution, and referring URL for analytics purposes.
  • Cookies — we use essential cookies for site functionality. See section 5 below.

2. Information you provide

When you submit a report about a phone number, you voluntarily provide:

  • The phone number being reported
  • The type of call (spam, scam, safe, or unknown)
  • Optional tags and comments describing the call

Reports are submitted anonymously. We do not require registration or personal details to submit a report. A hashed version of your IP address is stored alongside your report solely for abuse prevention.

3. How we use your information

  • To operate and maintain the phone number lookup service
  • To calculate and display risk scores and community reports
  • To enforce rate limits and prevent abuse
  • To generate aggregate, non-identifying statistics (e.g., most searched numbers, trending scam categories)
  • To verify report submissions via Cloudflare Turnstile (anti-bot)
  • To improve the service

4. Information sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers — we use third-party infrastructure (hosting, CDN, analytics) that may process data on our behalf.
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental request.
  • Abuse prevention — we may share hashed IP data with anti-abuse services.

5. Cookies and tracking

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function (rate limiting, CAPTCHA verification).
  • Analytics cookies — we may use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors use our site. These services may set their own cookies.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies may prevent you from submitting reports.

6. Data retention

Phone number reports, risk scores, and search statistics are retained indefinitely to maintain the integrity of the community database. Hashed IP addresses associated with reports are retained for abuse prevention purposes. We do not store raw IP addresses.

7. Data security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

8. Children's privacy

NumberFlag is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Third-party links

Our service may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every site you visit.
